Before pistachios became the fashionable choice, most Turkish households grew up on walnut baklava, and plenty of people still prefer it. Our 400g tray is made fresh to order, with crisp golden layers of pastry wrapped around a generous filling of chopped walnuts and finished with a light, clear syrup.

Walnut or Pistachio?

It is a friendly argument at many Turkish tables. Pistachio brings colour and a delicate, almost floral sweetness. Walnut is earthier and a little more rustic, with a gentle bitterness in the skin of the nut that cuts through the syrup beautifully. If you find some baklava too sweet, walnut is often the one that wins you over, because that natural edge keeps every bite balanced.

It is also the style you will find in homes across the Black Sea coast, the Aegean and the Balkans, where walnut trees grow in back gardens and the nuts are cracked by hand each autumn. In other words, this is traditional baklava in the most everyday sense, the kind made for family visits rather than shop windows.

How Our Walnut Baklava Is Made

Every tray starts with sheets of thin pastry, layered and brushed one at a time. Half go into the tin, then the walnut filling, then the rest of the sheets on top. The tray is cut into squares before baking so the syrup can find its way into every corner later. Once it comes out of the oven deep gold and crackling, cooled syrup is ladled over the hot pastry and left to soak in.

Because we bake to order, the baklava you receive has not been sitting on a shelf for weeks. The top layers should still give a satisfying crunch when you bite in, with a soft, nutty middle underneath.

Serving Ideas

  • Serve two or three squares with a cup of strong Turkish coffee after dinner.
  • Add a spoonful of kaymak or clotted cream on the side for a richer pudding.
  • Warm briefly in the oven and pair with vanilla ice cream on a cold evening.
  • Arrange on a platter with fresh fruit and tea when guests drop by.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it keep?

Store the tray covered at room temperature, away from heat and sunlight, and enjoy it within a few days while the pastry is at its crispest. Avoid the fridge, which makes the syrup set hard.

Is it suitable as a gift?

Very much so. A tray of this Turkish dessert is a classic present for Eid, housewarmings and family celebrations, and it travels well when kept flat.

Does it contain allergens?

Yes. Baklava contains nuts and wheat, and may contain milk. Please contact us if you need full allergen details before ordering.
